A warning to Recreation Leaders: I’ve spoken to a few burned out sports ministers lately. While there are a lot of varying factors there was one common thread in all of them. All three of these guys had tried to start programs that they found interesting. What do I mean by this? They started programs that they wanted to do without considering who they were trying to reach or what was popular in their area. Nothing will zap your energy or burn you out faster than trying to start a program that you personally enjoy but isn’t effective in your context. Your enjoyment quickly becomes work, and fruitless work at that. Seek God and study your area. Don’t be the guy stuck trying to start a surfing club in Montana because you had fun surfing on your Florida vacation.
