Progressive Thoughts Toward Moving Church Pastors Towards A Gospel Centric Sports Ministry - U.S. and Internationally. After spending 15 years in Church Sports Ministry I love opportunities to coach and develop church sports ministers. Below are some of my thoughts on how I might come alongside to help the Pastor. · I would advise him to seek God, pray, fast, talk to others, and seek advice from other churches. · I would advise the Pastor of the Church to seek someone that would interview him and ask questions to determine the Why of desiring to use sports, church interest in sports, facilities, etc. He might think about answering the following questions! o What outcome is he hoping to achieve? o What kind of help does he want/need available from his church? o Is the Pastor a Doer or a Leader? o Does he desire to make disciples that make disciples? o Why does he want to use sports? o Which sports is he looking to use? Why ? o Is the Pastor coachable or already has a plan in place and just needs a stamp on what he is doing? o What resources/opportunities does the Church have? o What are his views on sports and does he desire to be Gospel centered or to use it for just a platform to present the Gospel? Does he see God in the sport or just a distant spectator? If I was mentoring/coaching this individual · I would build a deeper relationship with the Pastor. · I would develop Him Sports Ministry to put these things in place: o I would teach/develop him in understanding the why of Gospel centricity o Encourage him to build an advisory team of church members that are sports people that love God and sports. o Advise him to assess his people and facilities and o I would encourage him to develop his MVPS- Develop a Mission statement, Develop a vision statement, Develop a Philosophy and Develop a Strategy. o Encourage him to find a leader for the ministry that can be trained and developed. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
